Plants and herbs have been used for thousands of years as all natural remedies.

Native American women drank willow bark tea (otherwise known as aspirin!) to soothe PMS cramps, while prehistoric women routinely bandaged cuts and wounds with honey taking advantage of it's anti-bacterial properties.

The up-side to using herbs and medicinal plants as natural remedies, is that unlike prescription medications, most are non-habit forming, have few side effects and can save you hundreds of dollars every year!

Peppermint

Got a tummy ache?
For years, women brewed up mint tea to soothe tummy troubles. Great for easing the queezy feeling
after a big holiday meal. Also renowned for it's ability to ease chest congestion, and may contain mild antisthetic properties.

To take advantage of this magic tea leaf's soothing powers just brew up a cup using a mint tea bag. Or, to make it from scratch, combine 1-2 tsp. dried mint tea leaves per cup of boiling water. Allow to steep for up to ten minutes.

Rosemary:
Long before women had refrigerators they wrapped
foods in rosemary leaves to prevent spoilage.

Combine this fresh or dried herb into your raw meats, tuna etc. to ward off potential cases of food poisoning. Or, steep one tsp. dried crushed rosemary leaves in a cup of boiling water for ten minutes for temporary relief of menstrual cramps.

Pregnant women should avoid using Rosemary medicinally as an herb, but may be safe to use for
seasoning in foods. Check with your physician, first.

Saw Palmetto: Once only available in it's natural form, Saw Palmetto has become more popular in the capsule form as a way to help men protect their prostates.

Valerian: Known for it's hypnotic almost euphoric effects, and ability to help cure insomnaia.

Valerian is a non-addictive sedative that compares in strength to valium. For those who find it difficult to relax or sleep this herb may provide all natural relief.  Brew 1-2 tsp. powdered Valerian root into one cup boiling water for 12 minutes. Add sweetner to taste.

Witch Hazel: External use only: You can find a commercial preparation of witch hazel for external cuts, bruises, hmorrhoids, and rashes at your local drug store.

Chamomile:  Sip your stresses away with a steaming cup of Chamomile tea. Great for indigestion too.

Use the Chamomile essential oil (diluted 1 drop to 20 drops of vegetable oil) externally over a bruise or sore muscle.

Halepeno Peppers: Add just a dash of halepeno pepper sauce to tea or any dish to break up chest congestion.  This natural expectorant may be just as effective as the more expensive drug store alternative, and much safer!

Comfrey: Used externally as a paste over a cut, this herb can destroy bacteria and help ward off infection. It helps speed healing too! A must for the accident prone! Comfrey should never be consumed internally.

Ginseng: Need an instant energy boost? Before reaching for your next cup of coffee, try this all natural alternative. Used for thousands of years in the Far East.  It may have the ability to reduce cholestorol naturally without the use of prescription drugs, and with no known side effects. You can find ginseng in liquid or capsule form at your local nutrition store

Garlic: Garlic, has been shown in studies to reduce blood pressure which may in turn reduce your risk of heart disease and stomach cancer. It may also be an effective anti-biotic (as strong as Penicillin, when consumed in large quantities) in it's natural state. Be sure to crush the garlic to allow it to release it's healing property before adding to your favorite dish.

While most herbs and plants are considered natural, you should always consult your physician before adding anything to your current diet.

There are hundreds of other all natural remedies available using herbs, and they're as easy to find as reaching into your spice cabinet, or garden. So, go out pick a handful of goodness and enjoy the all natural goodness and healing that nature offers!

Free tips for skin care beauty!

Keeping your complexion clear day in and day out can be a challenge.

On Monday you may find yourself struggling to hide a zit so huge, it could easily qualify for it's own zip code.

But, by Friday, Sahara dry skin is the topic of the day.

Skin can be unpredictable, to say the least!

Fortunately there are a few simple beauty tricks you can use to keep your skin blemish free, healthy and beautiful year round!

Try a few of these simple, yet effective free tips for skin care beauty and start seeing a clearer more beautiful complexion as early as tomorrow morning!

Want to stop pimples in their tracks?  Then stop them from forming in the first place.

Discard old face foundation and make up that will clog pores from harmful bacteria build up.

Using out of date cosmetics can lead to clogged pores, pimples, even skin infections.

Wash applicator sponges and brushes after each use, and allow to dry before reusing.

Better yet, use disposable applicators.

Toss out foundation and mascara after 3-6 months.

Opt for skin friendly non-comedogenic/hypo-allergenic cosmetics.

Cleanse your face nightly before going to bed to remove all traces of pore clogging cosmetics.

2.) Never pop a pimple.

Pimple popping can lead to more serious infection and even scarring.

Apply a gentle black head or pimple drying solution, and allow the skin irritation to clear naturally.

To keep pores clear, cleanse your face daily with a product that contains glycolic acid and exfoliate at least once a week.

Speak to your dermatologist if skin eruptions persist as it may be a sign of a more serious condition, i.e. adult acne that requires prescription treatment.

3.)  Skin changes as we age, becoming more fragile, and dry, unable to renew itself naturally as well as it once did.

Aging dry skin can look gray, drab and lifeless.

It's unrealistic to think that the same face care products you used as a teen will be sufficient for your 40's.

You can help speed up the cell renewal process and renew your skin's glow by selecting skin care products that help remove the dead skin cells to reveal fresh radiant skin beneath.

Look for products enriched with alpha hydroxy, Retinols, Pychnogenol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and ceramides.

Collagen enhanced skin creams offer a super intense moisterizing experience to rehydrate dry skin.

While pore tightening masks may help alleviate the appearance of large pores.

4.) Recent studies have indicated that nearly 100% of wrinkles can be attributed  to exposure from the sun.

To protect your delicate skin's future, apply sunscreen liberally everytime you go out, even if it's just going to be for a few minutes.

Not only will this help prevent wrinkles, but also age spots, as well.

5.) Find beauty through balance.
A hectic, fast paced life-style can lead you to make all the wrong choices when it comes to taking care of your skin.

Instead of taking the time to care for your skin and yourself, you put the task off till later. As your skin ages, you'll notice that it doesn't bounce back as quickly and begins to look more lack lustre than ever.

But, you don't have to surrender willingly to the inevitable.

You can help combat the early signs of aging by getting enough rest, drinking plenty of water, and eating a diet rich in anti-oxident containing fruits and vegetables. And, plenty of exercise!

Give your skin a fighting chance at looking beautiful.

With a few simple changes to your daily routine, you can keep your skin clear and beautiful for years to come.

How to stay pimple free...Forever

by Beverly Johnson April 23, 2006

Just when you thought that you'd left the teen years far behind, you wake up one morning with a giant zit sitting on the end of your nose.

That's when you realize that pimples are not exclusively reserved for teens!

If you get zits on a regular basis, you know how disruptive they can be.

They're annoying, pop up at all the wrong times and just plain hard to hide!

But, fortunately, there are a few simple things you can do to stop pimples in their tracks and make your pimple prone skin more beautiful?

1. Never pop a pimple.

Pimple popping can lead to more serious skin infection and even scarring. Once you break the skin, you'll allow bacteria from the outside world into your body.

To get rid of the pimples you already have, apply a gentle pimple drying solution, and allow the skin irritation to clear naturally.

In a pinch, you could apply a drop of calamine lotion on the zit. (It works to dry up chicken pox bumps, and it'll have a similar effect on a pimple.)

2.) Never scrub or abrasively rub sensitive skin.

3.) Toss out foundation, face powder and mascara after 3-6 months

Over time, bacteria begins to build up in cosmetics which can lead to to clogged pores, pimples, even skin infections.

4.) Wash applicator sponges and brushes (or anything else that touches your face) after each use, and allow to dry before reusing.

Better yet, use disposable applicators.

5.) Opt for skin friendly non-comedogenic/hypo-allergenic skin care and cosmetics products.
Look for the "sensitive skin" version.

6.) Wash your hands before you touch your face as the fingertips can easily transfer irritating chemicals (i.e. laundry detergent, or pore clogging dirt or cooking grease) to your skin

7.) Cleanse your face nightly before going to bed to remove all traces of pore clogging cosmetics.

8.) Avoid stress, junk foods, greasy foods or anything else that may cause you to break out.

And to keep future pimples from forming,
cleanse your face daily with a product that contains pore clearing glycolic acid and exfoliate at least once a week

With a few simple adjustments to your daily skin care routine, you can give your skin a fighting chance at looking beautiful...

...and, enjoy more pimple free days!
