How to stay pimple free...Forever

by Beverly Johnson April 23, 2006

Just when you thought you'd left the teen years far behind, you wake up one morning with a giant zit sitting on the end of your nose.

That's when you realize that pimples are not exclusively reserved for teens!

If you get zits on a regular basis, you know how disruptive they can be.

They're annoying, pop up at all the wrong times (and places) and just plain hard to hide!

Plus, they're really painful!

But, fortunately, there are a few simple things you can do to stop pimples in their tracks and make your pimple prone skin more beautiful?

1. Never pop a pimple.
No matter how tempting it is to eradicate that annoying red bump on your face, you should refrain!

Pimple popping can lead to more serious skin infection and even scarring. Once you break the skin, you'll allow bacteria from the outside world into your body.

To get rid of the pimples you already have, apply a gentle pimple drying solution, (or zit cream) and allow the skin irritation to clear naturally.

In a pinch, you could apply a drop of calamine lotion on the zit. (It works to dry up chicken pox bumps, and it'll have a similar effect on a pimple.)

2.) Never scrub or abrasively rub sensitive skin.

3.) Toss out foundation, face powder and mascara after 3-6 months

Over time, bacteria begins to build up in cosmetics which can lead to to clogged pores, pimples, even skin infections.

4.) Wash applicator sponges and brushes (or anything else that touches your face) after each use, and allow to dry before reusing.

Better yet, use disposable applicators.

5.) Opt for skin friendly non-comedogenic/hypo-allergenic skin care and cosmetics products.
Look for the "sensitive skin" version.

6.) Wash your hands before you touch your face as the fingertips can easily transfer irritating chemicals (i.e. laundry detergent, or pore clogging dirt or cooking grease) to your skin

7.) Never fall asleep with your make up on.

Cleanse your face nightly before going to bed to remove all traces of pore clogging cosmetics.

8.) Avoid stress, junk foods, greasy foods or anything else that may cause you to break out.

And to keep future pimples from forming, cleanse your face daily with a product that contains pore clearing glycolic acid.

And, exfoliate at least once a week.

With a few simple adjustments to your daily skin care routine, you can give your skin a fighting chance at looking beautiful...

...and, enjoy more pimple free days!
